This is not an optional boss as players must defeat it in order to advance in Elden Ring. The black flame could once slay gods. The Lordsworn greatsword is a good example. It had a "D" in both Strength and Dex scaling, but you'll notice the strength scaling is lesser than the Bastard Sword and Claymore.
